About "“Les Antagonismes ou la Monade” by Line Vautrin"

From a philosophical point of view, a Monad is a unity which can be supreme but which can also be minimal unity. Antagonism is a situation in which two phenomena or their consequences are opposed. These phenomena inspired Line Vautrin during the creation of this rare bronze box on the lid of which we can read a series of opposite terms:
Jour / Nuit = Day / Night
Commencement / Fin = Beginning / End
Mouvement / Repos = Movement / Rest
Mâle / Femelle = Male / Female
Vie / Mort = Life / Death
Attraction / Répulsion = Attraction / Repulsion
Forces créatrices / Forces destructrices = Creative forces / Destructive forces
Lumière / Ténèbres = Light / Darkness
Saillie / Creux = Projection / Hollow
Fixe / Volatil = Fixed / Volatile
Ciel / Terre = Sky / Earth
Positif / Négatif = Positive / Negative
Plus / Moins = More / Less
Manufactured around the 60s, it is an object of absolute poeticism, faithful to the most interesting creations of the artist. It is in very good condition, with its vintage patina. The back of the box bears a "LINE VAUTRIN" stamp. And the lid bears a "L.V." stamp.
Line Vautrin started working on her first creations, which were bracelets, at the age of 21. Throughout her career, she mainly created mirrors in Talosel and bronze works.  She rent a stand at the Universal Exhibition of 1937. This event enabled her to gain popularity and so diversify her production: she started creating jewellery, bag clasps, belt buckles,...
Line Vautrin is today admitted a major player in post-war French decorative arts.
