About Marito e Moglie by Ettore Sottsass
“Marito e Moglio” means “Husband and Wife”. Ettore Sottsass and Venini would describe this object as follows: “They are happy and on a solid marble base, their existence is sometimes fragile and slightly pull them apart, but they will always find stability in their relationship. Husband and wife are the symbol of an endless link.” Our copy is a prototype of the limited edition (99 copies) of 2003. Its colours are black and red, while the vases made for the actual edition were black and amber-coloured. It is in excellent condition and signed “Venini 2003 Ettore Sottsass PdA” with diamond point (“PdA” means “artist’s proof” (prova d’artista)). The collaboration between Ettore Sottsass and Venini began in 1988 and lasted until Sottsass’ passing. The artist designed multiple vases, including the Yemen vase, which has had a notable success and still is one of Venini’s best-seller.
