About Set of five Pulcini (pulcino) Glass birds by Alessandro Pianon, Vetreria Vistosi Murano (Italy)
Rare set of five birds in blown glass resting on their hammered copper legs. These are the models designed by Alessandro Pianon for Vistosi in Murano in 1962.
The first bird (left) has a cubic shape. Its body has an olive-green colour with blue and red murrine decoration. The eyes are made of two hot-applied murrines. Listed in the archives of Vistosi under the reference number S191.
The second bird from the left has a triangular shape. Its body has a light blue colour and is decorated with a continuous line of dark amber coloured glass. The eyes are made of two hot-applied murrines. Listed in the archives of Vistosi under the reference number S190. It bears the original label "Murano, MADE IN ITALY".
As seen on our pictures, the third bird is the tallest. Its body is made of green glass and its tail is decorated with red and blue murrines. The eyes are made of two hot-applied murrines. Listed in the archives of Vistosi under the reference number S189.
The fourth bird has a dark grey colour, which can sometimes lean towards a beautiful blue. Its body is decorated with green and blue square-shaped murrines, which are alternately arranged. Its eyes are made of hot-applied murrines. Listed in the archives of Vistosi under the reference number S192. It bears two original labels: one tag has the inscription "VISTOSI" with the logo of the factory, and the other tag is a gold paper label.
The last bird (right) is the one that met with the greatest commercial success. Its body is made of an orange glass sphere with an uncommon texture which imitates the bird’s plumage. Two hot-applied murrines were used to imitate the eyes. Listed in the archives of Vistosi under the reference number S193. It bears two original labels: one tag has the inscription "VISTOSI" with the logo of the factory, and the other tag is a gold paper label.
All five birds are in very good original condition and each of them is perfectly executed. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to acquire such a set.
