Laura de Santillana

( 1955 – 2019 )

Laura de Santillana was born in 1955 in Venice. She is Paolo Venini’s granddaughter and Ludovico Diaz de Santillana’s daughter, who took over the family glass production.

Laura completed her training at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Laura’s collaboration with Venini began in 1976.

She designed some series of vases: the “Klee” and “Brillo”, the “Sommersi” “Monofiori” series, and the less known “Munchen” series.

From our point of view, the most interesting pieces are the wonderful series of murrine dishes “numeri”, “Quattro stagioni” and “Floreali” inspired by floral patterns.

Laura stopped collaborating with Venini in 1985.

From 1980 on, Laura exhibited her own contemporary glass creations in many internationally renowned galleries.

She was also a guest at major glass institutions such as the Corning Museum of Glass and the Cini Foundation in Venice.

In 2011, Laura’s work was exhibited at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris.

Laura who is considered a major artist in the world of contemporary glass died in 2019.
