Anthropomorphic “Bust of a Woman” Vase by Robert & Jean Cloutier, circa 1958.
Important anthropomorphic vase in white glazed ceramic depicting a female bust. Its elongated silhouette, extended by a long sculptural handle, is animated by a stylized face painted in blue, giving the piece a striking graphic and sculptural presence.
This work belongs to the emblematic series of anthropomorphic vases developed by Robert and Jean Cloutier in the late 1950s. A model from the same series is illustrated in Patrick Favardin’s reference monograph on the Cloutier brothers, published by Éditions Norma. Related busts were presented at the 1958 Salon des Ateliers d’Art.
