Trianon or Les pavés du roi by Line Vautrin

Artist
Line Vautrin

“Trianon” or “Les pavés du roi”, silvered bronze compact by Line Vautrin.
Silver-plated bronze compact depicting the cobblestones of the Château de Versailles. On the upper part, a hinged powder compartment box recalling the facade of the Trianon.
The interior of the compact retains its original mirror and powder screen.
« (…) a visit to Versailles brought to my mind the multiplication of the paving stones. Being a woman, I felt them strongly in my balance, if I may say so, because they were bulging and irregular, and I was wearing small heels. I made a box of them: ‘Les pavés du roi’, with an adjoining Petit Trianon, which constitutes a small blush box, articulated to the first one. »
Line Vautrin (‘Les objets de poésie de Line Vautrin’, Art et Industrie, XII, 1948, p. 38)
