Triple Onion Pendant Light by Massimo Vignelli

Artist
Massimo Vignelli

Triple Onion Pendant Light by Massimo Vignelli, Venini Murano, Italy, 1955.
Three-light Murano blown-glass pendant, designed by Massimo Vignelli in 1955 and produced by Venini. The composition comprises three iconic “onion” shades, with generous, perfectly balanced forms, suspended at varying heights.
Each element features a distinct chromatic treatment: one in yellow glass, the second in grey glass, and the third in white opaline glass animated by vertical grey and yellow lines integrated into the mass. This interplay of color and transparency creates a subtle dialogue between graphic rhythm and light diffusion, characteristic of Vignelli’s explorations in the mid-1950s.
