“Le lion” gilt bronze compact by Line Vautrin.
Gilt-bronze compact depicting a stylised lion’s head in relief, surrounded by small arrow-like marks. This motif belongs to the talismanic bestiary Vautrin developed in the late 1940s–1950s, combining protective strength with solar imagery. The enlarged eyes, radiating mane and arrows evoke a heraldic guardian figure — an emblem she often used as a symbolic amulet of vigilance and inner power.
Comparable models are published in Patrick Boutonnet & Anne-Sophie Ortiz, Line Vautrin, Éditions Norma, and in Patrick Bokelberg, Line Vautrin: L’Art du Bijou et de l’Objet, where such zoomorphic faces are linked to her exploration of “protective” objects.
