“Filigrana a reticello” Murano glass vase by Carlo Scarpa, Venini Murano, Italy, circa 1940–1942.
Murano blown glass vase executed using the refined filigrana a reticello technique, emblematic of the research carried out by Carlo Scarpa for the Venini glassworks in the early 1940s. The generously rounded form, resting on a softly curved base and rising toward a slightly constricted neck, highlights the purity of the volume and the balance of proportions.
The surface is animated by a complex network of fine white glass filaments, crossed in a regular lattice to form a delicate lozenge pattern, rhythmically punctuated by small air bubbles trapped at each intersection.
