The Mystery of the Holy Innocents is a prose poem written by the French writer, poet, and essayist Charles Péguy. Published in the April 1912 issue of Cahiers de la Quinzaine, it concludes the triptych of mysteries, which also includes The Mystery of the Charity of Joan of Arc (1910) and The Porch of the Mystery of the Second Virtue (1911).
Like Péguy’s first two mysteries, The Mystery of the Holy Innocents takes up the principle of a dialogue between Madame Gervaise, a nun, and the young Joan of Arc.
