(1889 - 1974)
Ercole Barovier was born in 1889 in a well-known family of glassmakers.
At the age of 26, he becomes the artistic director of his father’s factory, « Vetreria Artistica Barovier et C ». He becomes a partner of the company four years later.
In 1936, Ercole became sole owner of the enterprise and decided to merge it with another famous factory: S.A.I.A.R. Ferro Toso. In 1942, « Vetreria Artistica Barovier et C » was renamed « Barovier et Toso ».
Ercole remained artistic director during 30 years, until 1972. Throughout his career, he kept inventing new techniques and colour combinations.
Barovier’s contribution to the revival of glass art is essential.
“Glass is motion and mystery—it’s the artistic gesture captured—and that makes it the most exciting of all the crafts.”
